Does MerchantSpring MCP use API calls or AI tokens?

MerchantSpring data requests use API calls, while your selected AI provider may apply its own separate usage limits.

Using the MerchantSpring MCP connector involves two different services: the MerchantSpring API Gateway and the AI application that interprets your request and response.

MerchantSpring API usage

When the MCP connector retrieves MerchantSpring account data, it makes one or more requests to the API Gateway. These requests use the applicable MerchantSpring API call allowances.

AI-provider usage

The AI application you use, may use its own model to understand your question, select tools and analyse the response. Your AI provider may count this through tokens, messages, credits or another usage model.

Why the totals are different

A single MerchantSpring API call may still require substantial AI processing before and after the request. MerchantSpring does not control the token or message limits applied by the external AI provider.

How to use MCP efficiently
  1. Be specific about the data and period required
  2. Avoid repeatedly asking the same broad question
  3. Use narrower requests for large reports
  4. Consider a direct API integration for recurring production workflows
