The direct API and MerchantSpring MCP connector both use available API Gateway capabilities, but they are designed for different types of work.

Choose the MerchantSpring access route that best matches your workflow.

Use the direct API when you need:

  • Controlled application logic and error handling
  • A predictable workflow without AI interpretation
Use MCP when you need:
  • Natural-language exploration
  • An ad hoc summary, analysis or visualisation

MCP can be useful for exploring a reporting concept quickly. Once the required data, filters and output are clear, a direct API implementation may be better for a repeated or production workflow.
