What do the Amazon FBA inventory statuses mean?

Inventory statuses show whether stock is ready to sell, still being processed, moving through Amazon’s network or unavailable.

Amazon FBA inventory is divided into different statuses based on where the stock is and whether it can currently be used to fulfil customer orders.

FBA inventory status definitions
Status What it means Can it fulfil an order now?
FBA Available Stock ready for Amazon to pick, pack and ship when a customer places an order Yes
Reserved Stock Amazon recognises but has temporarily set aside or is still processing Not currently
FC Transfer Stock being transferred between Amazon fulfilment centres Not while in transfer
FBA Inbound Stock included in a shipment travelling to Amazon or awaiting receipt Not yet
Unfulfillable Stock that cannot currently be used to fulfil customer demand No
FBA Available

FBA Available is inventory Amazon can currently use to fulfil customer orders.

This is the most immediately usable stock when assessing whether a product is available for sale through FBA.

Reserved

Reserved inventory is known to Amazon but is not currently available for picking.

This can occur while Amazon processes the inventory or completes other fulfilment-centre activities. Reserved stock may later return to Available once processing is complete.

FC Transfer

FC Transfer is inventory Amazon is moving between fulfilment centres.

Amazon may rebalance stock across its network to position inventory closer to expected customer demand. The stock remains within Amazon’s network but may not be available for sale while the transfer is underway.

FBA Inbound

FBA Inbound is inventory included in a shipment sent to Amazon.

The stock may be:

  • Travelling to an Amazon facility
  • Delivered but not yet fully received
  • Waiting for Amazon to complete its receiving process

Inbound inventory represents future supply, but it should not be treated as immediately available until Amazon has received and processed it.

Unfulfillable

Unfulfillable inventory cannot currently be used to fulfil customer orders.

This commonly includes stock that is:

  • Damaged
  • Returned in an unsellable condition
  • Defective
  • Awaiting assessment or another action

Unfulfillable inventory should not be treated as dependable available supply.

Why does total inventory differ from Available inventory?

A product’s total FBA inventory may include units that are Available, Reserved, in FC Transfer, Inbound or Unfulfillable.

Only the Available portion is ready to fulfil customer demand immediately. The other statuses may represent future, delayed or unusable supply.

Important note

Amazon controls inventory classifications and processing times. Statuses can change as inventory is received, transferred, assessed or made available within Amazon’s network.
