Why do advertising credentials sometimes become invalid?

Learn why advertising credentials may become invalid in MerchantSpring and how to restore advertising data syncing.

Amazon Advertising integrations require separate API authorization from standard marketplace connections. Occasionally, advertising credentials may become invalid or expire, which prevents MerchantSpring from retrieving updated advertising metrics.

When this occurs, advertising data may stop updating until the credentials are refreshed.


Common Causes of Advertising Credential Issues

Several factors can invalidate advertising credentials:

  • Expired Authorization Tokens
    Amazon periodically requires applications to refresh authentication tokens to maintain secure access.

  • Permission Changes
    If the advertising account’s permissions change or access is revoked, the connection may become invalid.

  • Account Security Updates
    Password changes, security updates, or changes to account administrators may require reauthorization.

  • Amazon API Updates
    Amazon occasionally updates API requirements, which may require integrations to reauthenticate.


Signs That Advertising Credentials May Be Invalid

You may notice:

  • Advertising metrics stop updating
  • Spend or campaign data appears outdated
  • Campaign reports show incomplete data
  • Dashboards display older advertising performance

Steps to Restore Advertising Data

  1. Navigate to Settings → Channels
  2. Locate the Amazon advertising integration
  3. Select Reconnect Advertising or Update Credentials
  4. Complete the Amazon authorization process
  5. Confirm the requested permissions

Once reconnected, MerchantSpring will resume retrieving advertising data.


Notes: 

  • Advertising connections may require separate permissions from marketplace sales data.
  • Advertising metrics often update less frequently than sales metrics.
  • After reconnection, data may take several hours to fully refresh.
