Why do I see duplicate financial events in my reporting?
Learn why duplicate financial events may appear in MerchantSpring reports and how Amazon financial data affects reporting.
Occasionally, users may notice what appear to be duplicate financial events in MerchantSpring reports. In most cases, these are not actual duplicates but rather separate financial events that relate to the same transaction.
Amazon often records multiple financial entries for a single order as different parts of the transaction are processed.
MerchantSpring retrieves these events individually from Amazon’s financial APIs.
How Amazon Records Financial Events
For a single order, Amazon may record several financial entries, such as:
- Order revenue
- Referral fees
- Fulfilment fees
- Shipping charges
- Promotional rebates
- Refund adjustments
Each of these events appears as a separate entry in the financial data.
When viewed together, they may appear similar, but they represent different components of the transaction.
Situations That May Look Like Duplicates
-
Refund Reversals
If a refund is processed and later reversed, Amazon may record both events. -
Adjustment Entries
Amazon may apply additional adjustments after the initial transaction. -
Fee Corrections
In some cases, Amazon corrects fees or charges by posting separate financial entries.
How MerchantSpring Displays These Events
MerchantSpring displays financial events exactly as they are recorded by Amazon.
This provides transparency and allows users to see the full breakdown of transaction-level costs and revenue.
Notes:
- Multiple entries for a transaction are normal.
- Each entry represents a different financial component.
- Reviewing the event type field can help clarify the purpose of each entry.
Troubleshooting
