Why might I see data discrepancies between MerchantSpring and Amazon?

Learn why data discrepancies may appear between MerchantSpring and Amazon reports and how to troubleshoot them.

Occasionally, users may notice differences between the data shown in MerchantSpring and the figures displayed in Amazon Seller Central or Vendor Central. In most cases, these differences are temporary and are caused by the way Amazon publishes data through its APIs.

MerchantSpring retrieves marketplace data directly from Amazon’s official APIs. However, the data available through APIs may update at different times compared to the reporting dashboards within Amazon’s own interfaces.

Understanding these timing differences helps explain why discrepancies may appear.

Common Causes of Data Discrepancies

Reporting Latency

Amazon often processes financial and order data before publishing it through APIs. This can cause a delay between when data appears in Amazon dashboards and when it becomes available to external analytics platforms.

Attribution Timing

Advertising metrics rely on attribution windows. Sales attributed to advertising campaigns may appear later as Amazon assigns conversions to campaigns.

Financial Event Posting

Amazon may post refunds, reimbursements, or fee adjustments days or weeks after the original transaction. These events can cause historical profit figures to change.

Date Definitions

Different reports may use different date types, such as:

  • order date

  • shipment date

  • posted financial event date

These differences can affect how transactions appear in reports.

Steps to Troubleshoot Data Differences

  1. Confirm the date range used in both reports.
  2. Check whether the report is based on order date or financial event date.
  3. Allow time for recent transactions to complete synchronization.
  4. Review whether refunds or adjustments have been posted.

Notes:

  • Minor discrepancies during recent reporting periods are normal.
  • Financial reports typically stabilize after Amazon completes settlement cycles.
  • Advertising metrics may change as attribution windows close.
